Taekwondo camp with Connor

Connor had a lot of fun at taekwondo Summer Survival Camp. He recieved an award at the end for being the most Spirited Camper. The first picture is Connor exploring the rebreakable boards for the board breaking clinic, then Connor and Daddy taking a walk, then Mommy containing Connor so he would stop petting the dogs while they were eating dinner, and then Daddy and Connor sleeping in Sunday morning.

Other than having trouble getting Connor to go to sleep, he did really well, had lots of new things to eat (like grilled cheese over a campfire, and anyone else ever heard of a Pudgie Pie? We hadn't but now Connor is a true Indiana boy and had a blueberry one), and everyone thought he did a great job with us.

Go Connor you super camper you! :)

New Shoes

We got Connor new shoes for our camping trip this weekend!

They are size 5 XW. His feet have grown in three months from a 4 to a 5 but slightly less fat! (the 4s were XXW :) ).

Diaper butt

Connor climbing into his toy bin... again :)

It is really one of his favorite hobbies. He must think the toys in the bin are lonely.

My mom's new childproofing effort

Putting playmats on the walls over outlets in use.

And btw, it actually does work, for now :). Connor plays with the mat and has stopped pulling out all our plugs! :)

Good morning!

So, Connor's surgery. As I have mentioned before, Connor had a hydrocele, which means one of his testicles was still in a bag of fluid that should have dissolved before he was born. This is somewhat common, but usually it resolves by the first birthday. If it doesn't, it means that the fluid is being fed by the abdominal cavity and it needs to be sealed off (which is what happened in Connor's case). It sounds scary but actually it is a pretty routine surgery.

So, Connor had this procedure done last Friday. It was a LONG day. First, we had to get up at 6am for his last nursing before the surgery (at 1pm). Then the joys of not feeding a child for 7 hours.... heh. After 9am, no fluids or food at ALL, not even clear fluids (which he could have from 6am to 9am). We got to the hospital at 11 am and it was hurry up and wait, hurry up and wait. Connor did okay, he was a bit cranky at this point but he did okay. I went back with him to talk to the doctors and nurses, they wouldn't let me stay with him until he was asleep, they took him down the hall to put him to sleep and I cried a lot. Then we waited for an hour to find out how it all went -- the hospital had wireless internet so I wasted some time that way, it helped to pass the minutes. Then they called us back as he was waking up.

He was really groggy and woke up a little and then slept in my arms for about an hour. Then he woke up and nursed for about half an hour and then they let us go home. He was very groggy all that night and slept a *lot*. He only threw up once, right as we got home all over the carseat. He did perk up after sleeping about 2 hours at home and wandered around the house for a while. Then he went to sleep for the night at 930pm, unheard of here! Heh.

He is doing great now. :) He still has the stitches but otherwise he seems just about normal.

And he got his 5th tooth on Sunday. :)

I put things inside each other too!

Stacking the bowls and the ball together.

Connor starting to understand that things fit inside each other as well as can be taken apart. It is fun to watch him put things together. :)

Yadda yadda yadda

Connor talking, more and more.

Even though there is not much yet in the way of words, Connor's a chatty little guy these days. Here he is in mid-jabber.

Storytime

Mommy trying to read Harry Potter and Connor "helping"....

Connor had surgery on his hydrocele this afternoon. It went very well. I will write more later about the whole thing, I am tired from a long day. Connor almost seems back to normal already -- good for him, not as good for tired mommies and daddies :).

Off I go

Taking my frog for a walk.

Tomorrow is Connor's friend Ben's birthday. Ben sent Connor this frog for his birthday last month (with the help of his mommy Rose) and Connor loves taking it for walks. :) Usually pulling it by the string in his mouth ;).

It is also Connor's friend Noah's birthday today! Yay Noah! :) And his other friend Alena's birthday tomorrow! Yay for babies from our July playgroup! (all of their blogs are on links to the right on this page).

Ben, Noah, Alena, and Connor will have lots of fun playing together in Chicago this August!!

Here I go!

Climbing over the back of a chair is fun!

Hello!

So the tournament Saturday was fun. I went alone and Matthew stayed home with Connor. I left at 4am and got there about 745am. My directions were a little off so it took 15 minutes more than planned while I consulted the atlas and got myself un-lost. :)

Connor did great with Matthew. I left about 15 oz of pumped milk in the fridge and they used that up but didn't end up using any of the frozen backup. I did well too, I judged and competed all day and I placed 1st in forms, 1st in weapons and 2nd in sparring in my division. :)

I got home about 730pm and Connor was still napping. He woke up soon though and was happy to see me :).

I am part of the family

I can climb on the table too... oh joy.

Connor's been pushing his chair up to our "new" living room table (we won it in a silent auction for $10 at Matthew's work) and then climbing up on it.

Resourceful, he is. Master problem solver ;).

Recap from yesterday's tournament soon when I am more rested :).

And now for something completely different

Drew and Connor at the Rochester get together, December 2004. (Picture taken by Sheri)

This is Connor at about 6 months with his friend Drew. Today Drew's mommy Emily has her last day of work and then she will be a stay at home mommy with little Drewbie. We are very excited for her, and know she is counting down the minutes til 4pm eastern time today.

We heart you, Em and Drew! Connor can't wait to see you all again sometime!

Excuse me please

I have things to do!

Hello,

So we found out yesterday that Connor will indeed have to have surgery to repair his hyrdocele. It is a common procedure and is outpatient, so things should go smoothly. makes mommy nervous though.

I have a little over a week to be nervous about it since it isn't til next Friday :).

Housekeeper in training

He doesn't cook but he does clean...

Hello everyone :)

Well, actually, he does like to wipe off the table. But that is about it. No picking up his toys. But... he is young. I'll have my way yet ;).

Keep that baby bowling

Bowling bowling bowling

Connor thinks he is the bowling ball. He will crawl through the pins and hit them with his head instead of throwing the ball.

That's okay though. It's very cute :).

Take me out to the ball game

A little refreshment as the Wizards take on the Timber Rattlers.

We went out to see the minor league baseball team play while Nana and Grandpa were here. Connor did really well. He did go out to the play area with his daddy a few times, but he also watched some of the game and tried all of our food.

Connor and Nana

I love my Nana. I help with the laundry!

So, mommy instinct was not exactly on target. Connor might actually be getting a tooth, but that's not what's bothering him. My little bean is sick :(. He's been running a fever and is very lethargic when not dosed up with tylenol. :(

Poor little bean. I hope he feels better soon!

Connor and Grandpa

Grandpas are fun!

Hello!

Connor, we think, is getting a new tooth. He is very cranky about it. I feel a little poke when I feel his gum on the right side...

And then he bites me. Patient he is not.

Dapper Dan the Diaper Man

This is Connor holding his new doll, Dapper Dan.

One of Connor's presents was a doll you can practice things like tying shoes, buttoning buttons, velcro and zippers, and such things on. The doll had the interesting name of Dapper Dan.

My mother kept calling him "Dapper Dan the Diaper Man". The doll has no diapers. Apparently when I was a youngling, my mom would call herself "Doctor Dan the Bandaid Man" when I had a boo-boo. So Dapper Dan became the diaper man....

I don't ask questions. I just reflect on how she gave me half my DNA :).

So Dapper Dan the Diaper Man he is. And Connor really loves him.

Vroom Vroom!

My new off road vehicle is super fun for everyone!

Hello!

So my parents left this morning. I was sad. They had a really good time here with Connor and Connor had a great time too. They also brought lots of new toys for Connor to play with and a new TV for Connor and family. I am still pondering how to fit everything in his playroom... :)

Connor's one year appointment was this morning too. He weighed 21 lbs 5 oz and is 30.5" tall. Such a little man! :)
